They are on the losing side of history. And that history moves inexorably forwards.

Our species has moved well past Malthusian-collapse levels. We "should've" lost the ability to feed the planet's population by the beginning of the LAST century.

But the reason the species didn't breed itself out of existence is because of improvements in technology and in distribution. All of this becomes more dependent upon the free movement of free information by free people in a free society.

Governments dislike this. Some parochial haters dislike this. But they can either opt-out and decrease their ability to compete and benefit; or they can allow evolution to take its course.

I was born after Women got the vote, but before the miscegenation laws and sodomy laws were repealed. It was also back in the days when a mine-collapse in The People's Republic or a launch explosion in Soviet Kazakhstan could be buried.

Today were are more aware of the enemies of freedom. And this makes us more scared. But we are more aware because the mechanisms of control are breaking-down around them.

The last feature required to be recognized as a human will go. Maybe not in my lifetime. But given acceleration ( the kind that leads some to posit The Singularity, ) it will probably be sooner rather than later.

And the tools that allow us to spread the arguments for progress will allow us to see them kicking and screaming with every step towards a better life for all. They've already been marginalized, they just don't realize it yet.

Perhaps the next frontier will be removing the requirement "human" from the definition of what it means to be a person.

At that point you can bet that the descendants of the Antis who chose to follow their grandparents' footsteps and resist progress will actually claim OUR principles and OUR victory as their own. Just as now the descendants of Slavers and anti-Semites claim ( while opposing US ) that they would've stood against Slavery and against The Holocaust had they lived then.

Liberty is the necessary condition for the adaptability that allows progress. And once we progress beyond a particular piece of irrationality it becomes impossible to rationalize it in hindsight. Not only will they disavow the Antis, they won't even be able to imagine the mindset required to be an Anti or to promote the rhetoric.
