A truly sad decision. The "war on pedophilia" has reached a new level in The Netherlands. The notion of 'harm to children' has been pushed further into the realm of fantasy and fiction.


It's interesting to read how the court reasons. Today a court can not pass a verdict based on 'immorality' alone. That belongs to an earlier time when religion played a much bigger role. Today's secular society wont allow that.

But there is another type of religion, called pseudo-science. Pure science has self-regulation. Pseudo-science lacks self-regulation and is (among other things) characterized by selective sampling and biased conclusions.

I am not sure if the judges really believe in this damage, but that is not the point. They might believe in it, or they might only pretend to. But we can be sure of one thing: they regard themselves as morally superior to the 'pedophiles'. And that is what matters to them.


The need to 'protect' somebody or something is what this feeling of moral superiority is based on. We recognize it in all kinds of discrimination throughout history, from 'protecting' the family against women who bore a child outside marriage to 'protecting' the whole German nation against the Jews.


Real child abuse is not to peacefully present your arguments for physical love between young and old. Real child abuse is to use children and their perceived vulnerability and dependence to further one's own political aims and spread fear, discrimination, intolerance and hate in society.


History tells us that even the most extreme prejudice vanish one day. It vanishes when the fundamental need for it goes away. We can not imagine why Jews were so hated, but that is only because we can not understand the fundamental need for that hate.
