There are certainly better things to do than to try to come down to the level of idiots. It can be useful and enlightening from time to time, but one should not make a habit of it.

That said - there are a surprising number of reasonably intelligent people around if you look for them. They may not have your strengths, but they might have strengths that you need and are lacking. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and it is by working together that we excel.
