Because for many people, their proclaimed objection to child sex is pregnancy.

I disagree with that in principle. Motherhood is something to be proud, not ashamed; and I think it speaks very bad of our society how many people see it the opposite way. But the point remains that if the objection is that then it isn't like we haven't got a way to avoid it too. That really smells of intentional ignorance.
