I've met all kinds of parents with all sorts of beliefs about parenting and about children. I've come to believe that neither being a sperm-donor nor marrying into parenthood confers any special wisdom. There are some specific experiences we've had as parents. But even many of those are too specific to be necessarily shared; and what beliefs we derive from them have more to do with our beliefs and less with the experience. The only universal piece of wisdom parenthood confers is that "parenthood isn't easy." Heck, you'd even think that something as simple as "a girl's main goal in freely expressing her sexuality is NOT prostitution," might be something you learn from observing your own daughters grow up. But apparently even a father like Ethan can draw the opposite conclusion. So all bets are off. Dante |
