It takes a very skilled warrior to know how much force will be needed to deal with the threat. And a very peaceful warrior to keep that to a minimum out of respect for all life. Worth practicing to get good at it.

Sure, you will have to err on the side of more damage, less respect, till you get the hang of it. But it is a good attitude to develop.
