I didn't want to admit it. But I think you hit it. That definitely would be a major part in my reasoning.
IMO, that is not very good, well-thought out reasoning. In all honesty, it sounds to me more like a knee-jerk violent reaction based on jealousy with a bit of equally knee-jerk rationalizing tacked on to justify it in your own mind. But at least you admit the possibly self-serving reason for calling the police or hitting your hypothetical rival, the rationalization for it aside.
