That's because, generally speaking (of course there are exceptions in both sides,) men "believe" more in more directly violent solutions to any societal issue. I have no inkling to whether this is natural (which it sounds like, but would be hard to prove) or cultural through educating men to a greater general tolerance of violence than women (which I think doesn't show the cross-cultural patterns it should if it were cultural.) Just look at children corporal punishment. Even where it's approved and expected, very often the mothers only administer it as an immediate reaction while fathers are the ones who do longer spankings after the fact as punishment, even if the offense was against the mother or when the mother was in charge.
