Actually I know a little girl who has cancer. The parents just gave up and were waiting for her to die. There are tons and tons of people in hospice care of all ages who just "gave up" or their family did. And this girl wanted to do anything but give up.

To stop people from being super depressed about this, the girls situation has changed. You should have seen her smile when she was told they were going to try a new treatment. I hadn't ever even seen her smile before that. First time I have ever wanted to see a girl as an adult. And I want it more than anything.

Some say because survival rates of certain treatments are so low under 25% you might as well give up. Others stop because of the cost. The problem is the stupid FDA takes years to approve new treatments till they study it for a while. No matter how many lives it could save. Europe is better on the new treatment front but they still wont spend money if its new and the survival rate is low. (In my opinion any kind of trying for some treatment is better than telling a child their going to die. No matter what the survival rate)

So yes, there are plenty of people who have given up.
