I ALWAYS use tor - and I experience the same problem you have, though not as bad. On average I need to switch identities maybe 4 times before the homepage will load. I had asked about this months ago, and no one seemed to really know why this happens.

I put up with it, public proxy lists are available online though they tend to be much more of a pain in the ass than tor as typically most of them don't work (plus you don't know if they keep logs). There's paid proxy servers too but then you have privacy issues.
