Intially, I'd have gone with your choice, for much the same reasons.

But, then I thought to myself, if you lose the sense of smell, then it's quite common that you lose your sense of taste, too. The two are very intricately linked...

So, I'd choose taste and smell, on the basis that if I lost taste because I lost smell, that's quite enough to be getting on with. :)
