In 1957 a chance meeting on an Atlantic City beach forms the basis of a 30-year friendship between two girls from very different backgrounds. A Bette Midler vehicle with an uncanny look-alike (Mayim Bialik) playing 11-year-old CC Bloom (in flashback scenes occupying the first 20 minutes or so of the film), with Marcie Leeds as 11-year-old Hillary. Mayim wears a leotard with a fringe to do a song and dance number while Nikki Plant plays her rival Iris Myandowski who walks on her hands.
