It's always a really tough discussion when this comes up with my mother... but actually, it's gotten a little better every time. She took it really hard when she first found out. I haven't been able to change her mind on anything, but I have been able to reassure her that I won't do anything stupid that would get me in trouble.

I don't want to imagine what my dad would do if he had any idea...

I think "fear of the unknown" is the principal at play in these kinds of situations. So little knowledge and a lot of biases working in the wrong direction. Seems the best thing to do is stay calm and present information where it will clear up doubts and turn around any misconceptions. It can be tough for both sides to stay emotionally detached, Jedi-style, but I think that leads to the best sort of conversation about the subject.

You'll do fine, Catcher... keep being yourself and they will have to realize that it's the same you they always knew, and that there isn't anything to be angry about.
