You can't learn to be a parent from a book.
Interaction between parent and child should be a natural thing, love, trust and taking time are some keywords here.

It also really annoys me to see those parents with careers talking about spending "quality time" in the weekend with their kids.
Just have the career and leave parenthood to a real parent.

I loved the comment of Jennifer, couldn't have said it better myself:

"Okay this is for the article writer, half those things you claim are turn offs are part of being a parent. I think parents that don't ask their kids how their day went at school are idiots. There are over a dozen different things that can happen to them in any given day. The relationship that me and my 16 year old have is one of the best relationships a mother and child can have. She knows that whatever she is having trouble with she can come to me because I am her mom. Not ditzy Tina the teenage drama queen giving crappy advice. A parent needs to be willing to talk to their teen about anything from sex to drugs, and respecting themselves and other people. If you don't talk to them someone else will, and 60% of the time that spells hazardous."
