Voyage of the MEDIA UPDATE

If you're still interested in the Chronicles of Narnia series now that Lucy Pevensie is nearly an adult (I do think they're well-made, although the Christian allegory nonsense is a tad irritating), at io9 there's a trailer for the third film in the series, 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.' ⚠️ ↗ The good news is that this one focuses more on Lucy than the others did, so that's a plus.

Now let's take a look at upcoming projects of some of our favorite girls, eh? We'll start with Elle Fanning. She'll be costarring with Benicio Del Toro in Somewhere ⚠️ ↗, about a hard-partying actor whose young daughter comes to live with him for awhile. As a plus the film is being directed by Sofia Coppola (you know, Francis Ford's daughter.) She'll also be playing Mary in an adaptation of the timeless 'Nutcracker' ⚠️ ↗. I'm not sure I'm crazy about it being in 3D; I see this whole 3D craze as a trend rather than a legitimate film style, and I'm sick of it already.

So what's Abbie Breslin up to then, you ask? Well, she'll be playing the title character (I'm guessing) in Janie Jones ⚠️ ↗, yet another movie about a daughter going off to spend time with a famous wayward father, this time a rock star. Yep, I guess that's officially a mini-trend then.

Be on the lookout for Isabella Acres in the ecological film The Future ⚠️ ↗. I figure she'll be playing the couple's young daughter, but don't quote me on that. And check out the high percentage of girl faves in the holiday film The Search for Santa Paws ⚠️ ↗, including Madison Pettis (who was the best thing about 'The Game Plan'), Nicole Leduc (you may remember her from the otherwise forgettable 'Jennifer's Body') Kaitlyn Maher (according to IMDb, "the youngest ever Top 10 Finalist on America's Got Talent") and Michelle Creber (okay, her I've never heard of.)

Morgan Lily (from 'Henry Poole is Here'--ugh, but she's hot!) will be in Flipped ⚠️ ↗, about 8th grade love. Morgan's playing a younger version of the 8th grade girl, which unfortunately means she likely won't get a lot of screen time. Two other little beauties, Taylor Groothius and Jacquelyn Evola, are also in the film.

And now for a fave of mine, Bailee Madison (Elle's awesomely precocious sister in 'Phoebe in Wonderland' and Jess's little sister in 'Bridge to Terabithia') will be in several upcoming films, but one that looks interesting to me is An Invisible Sign ⚠️ ↗, about a young math teacher. Bailee plays her as a child, but somehow I get the feeling this will be as much about her childhood as her adulthood, especially with star power like Ms. Madison involved. Another film she'll be in (she'll definitely be getting plenty of screen time in this one) is Don't Be Afraid of the Dark ⚠️ ↗, which looks to be right up my alley. IMDb synopsis: "A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own."

Little Miss Hottie Brooklynn Proulx ('The Time Traveler's Wife') will have a major role in Shelter ⚠️ ↗, which will likely touch on issues relevant to us since it deals with a character who has multiple personalities. Okay, I'll go along, as long as Brooklynn continues to sustain my interest. :) Several of the Texeira clan, a Hispanic acting family, will have parts in A Woman Called Job ⚠️ ↗, including the too cute Sophie Texeira. I'm not sure exactly what this is about, but it sounds intriguing.

Another film with a knockout cast of girls is Jack and the Beanstalk ⚠️ ↗, which has Madison Davenport (Ruthie from 'Kit Kittredge: An American Girl;' she's also done a lot of voiceover work for cartoons), Emily Rose Everhard (who will be possibly the hottest Little Red Riding Hood ever), Sammi Hanratty (as Gretel), Chloe Moretz (ahem Hit Girl ahem) and Adair Tishler (as Rapunzel, yes!) And then there's Monster Mutt ⚠️ ↗--yeah, probably as bad as it sounds, but it does have the heart-melting Rhiannon Leigh Wryn as one of the principle actors. If you've forgotten who she is, then you need to go back and watch 'The Last Mimzy' again.

Speaking of Chloe Moretz, in case you've been living under a rock, she is the one tackling the vampire part in the American remake of 'Let the Right One In.' io9 has a side-by-side comparison of scenes from the two films. ⚠️ ↗ The good news is, it seems to be a pretty straightforward remake, which means it probably won't stray far from the original. The bad news is . . . well, why make it then? Hollywood, there are tons of books out there that could use film adaptations. Why rehash the same thing over again? Oh, I know: $$$. Sigh.

You can also catch a sneak peek of Hayao Miyazaki's upcoming film 'The Borrowers.' ⚠️ ↗ It's Miyazaki, people!

Here's the homepage for an interesting-looking indie film called Raspberry Magic ⚠️ ↗, which has several girls in it: Lily Javaherpour, Keya Shah and Bella Thorne [!]

Last (but certainly not least) there's some news on the 'Bioshock' film--finally! ⚠️ ↗ The film will keep a hard R rating, but it will sacrifice some of its budget because of it. But at least film isn't quite in limbo anymore. Excellent!
