Another anti-Capitalist Conservative

The purpose of the Free Market isn't to make as much money as possible; it's to be free. When will these knuckleheads get it?

In any voluntary transaction between two parties, both parties are getting what they want out of the transaction. Maybe the girls want smiles, maybe they want to put a batch of lemons which were on the verge of spoiling to good use. Who knows what they want? All that's important to know is that they weren't coerced; that their activities were freely done and offered on terms they agreed to.

Capitalists have been using freebies to do a lot of things over the years. Let people sample the quality of a service. Ingratiating oneself with the community. Again, we don't need to necessarily know the motive in order to accept that there were no violations of consent.

The insistence that profit maximization is the sole end of a free market, just doesn't get why the confluence of a variety of voluntary actions with different motives tend to benefit all more than any planned or managed economy ever has.

Who knows, maybe their motives were more sinister like in the classic Gahan Wilson cartoon.
