Profit has been privatized and risk has been spread to the taxpayers, and it was the government which did this.

That is the essence of the "problem" with the financial system in the usa. What is called "corporate greed" is simply a perverse form of capitalism that has been enabled by a government that is of the elite, by the elite, and for the elite.
