Thing is, dude, you have to realize that this is more complex than it first appears, with a lot of angles to look at it from. Not only that, this kind of subject is highly emotive, which brings its own crap in to play, too...

Ok, so there you were. quite happily printing some stuff off your printer, right? Just as you have every right to do, as well.

But, your paperwork was discovered by your dad. Now, I'm not even going to go into the ethics of reading someone else's print out (which I myself could never abide to do, out of principle of confidence), but the point is, he did.

Shit, man, knowing the average non-ped, that must have scared the shit out of him! He probably thinks you could be involved in all sorts of shit... Hey, bear in mind two things - we know you ain't involved in anything bad, and that it's not your Dad's fault if he thinks you could be - that's the media's fault.

I think you ought to sit down and have a chat with your folks. From the sounds of it, they already know that you're a ped, so it's not like you're starting from scratch.

Just explain to them that you were downloading the essay for research purposes, and that you reserve the right to do the same, in future. And explain that you understand their concerns, and make sure that you give them an opportunity to air their concerns, too.

If you tackle it like that, my friend, I'm sure that you'll be able to take care of this - I have faith in you.
