Americans (OK, not all, but too many) rabidly oppose Latin American immigration.

Mostly avowed conservatives, yes.

But they also oppose the trade agreements with Latin America that would send the jobs immigrants have in the USA to the southern neighbors - thereby stopping immigration at the source.

Perhaps in theory, but in practice states can't be trusted to draft and enforce "free trade" agreements. Their very involvement is antithetical to free trade.

free trade: international trade free of government interference

Treaties between governments written and enforced with an eye to benefiting existing power elites, central bankers, and corporate megalopolies make a mockery of free trade. That's why the same politicians who support NAFTA also supported, say, the embargo on Iraq without blinking.
