It's sad that so many people still buy into such a silly paradigm.
Granted, qtns identifies himself as conservative, though very few self-identified conservatives in the U.S. (or anywhere else) would be likely to claim him. Who else? I vigorously question all authority. That alone would disqualify me from all traditional definitions of conservative or right-winger. Among other things I am influenced by a kind of Sadeian interpretation of feminism, I support eliminating all restrictions on female reproductive sovereignty, favor the abolition of patriarchy in law, and support the abolition of the capitalist system (which actually requires the State and is antithetical to freed markets). In the French Assembly where the left-right paradigm was born, any of this would be considered far to the "left" even by those who already furthest to the left of the king. In TVland opposition to the state may sometimes be automatically equated with the right, but that is a ridiculous distortion of reality. To any remotely consistent anti-authoritarian, faith in the State makes no more sense than faith in God. I do my best not to get caught up in vague floating signifiers representing outdated paradigms that were fatally flawed even from the start such as "left," "right," "liberal," and "conservative."
