There is a faster way

The only reliable answer is from the God of Truth, so he must be found first.

If the first was the God of Truth, he would not have said that the one in the middle is the God of Truth. That does not tell you who the first god is, but it tells you who he is not.

The one in the middle who replied "I am the God of Diplomacy" is obviously not our candidate, either.

So the child knew that the third was the God of Truth before even approaching the statue. Once it was learned that the one in the middle was the God of Falsehood, the first one, by elimination, had to be the God of Diplomacy.
