a gross mischaracterization

I know that the modern Western consensus is that marriage is so bad that no one under the age of 18 would enter it willingly, but this is no excuse for suggesting that posters here admire forced marriages of any kind.

As far as I am aware, those posters who admire the willingness of some Islamic societies to allow child brides are in favor only of those marriages which all persons enter voluntarily. It should also be noted that Islamic culture does not make such a big fuss over marriage being "forever" as has been traditional in Christian cultures, and women have a right to divorce, so allegations that a girl would be making a decision with lifelong consequences beyond her capacity to understand are exaggerated.

Of course, people in every society seldom live up to their ideals in practice, and this includes Islamic societies, but that is a separate point.
