Another (less opinionated) article has surveillance footage released to the media and statements from the police report:
The juvenile suspect said he thought one of three women who had just walked outside the store might be the girl's mother, according to the narrative.

"However, he noticed they looked at him without saying a word. . . . [The boy] then turned and started walking back toward the store," the report states. That's when the girl's actual mother approached him and the child. And, at that time, he returned the girl to the mother.

"He was just trying to help the child. He did not think to request a store employee to help locate the child,"

The video tends to support Edwin's version, and clearly parts of it were omitted - namely the parts which would clearly verify if what Edwin said was true... There isn't a shot of what happened outside, for instance. Anyways the authorities publicly admit in their report that he was trying to help the girl, who he thought was separated from her mother, and the video evidence tends to supports this. There is no justification for the charges the cops have brought.
