And you would tell the boy to stop trying to design a device that would release the Moon to outer space so there no longer are any tides, because he can't hope to complete it in his lifetime.

I would stop him from doing that anyway if I thought it had a chance of working, because a moonless earth would be fairly disastrous. ⚠️ ↗ You may want to reconsider your metaphors. ;-)
