Putting on an act will call out more attention than being in public.
However I guess it depends on how much attention your behavior is calling to itself.
I don't want to be the, "Daddy, why is that guy staring at me?" fellow. I prefer to see LGs in their natural environment, free from such intrusions.
But just being out, at the bookstore, at the restaurant, at the movies will put you in the proximity of cuties.
Now if you choose to hang out in the children's section of the library during storytime, or to wander into an LG clothing store as a single guy, you might have to fabricate something. But I can't see how that would be necessary; presuming you don't spend the rest or your time in bars or other "adults only" facilities.
Its no big deal being out and about in public. Its no big deal taking in the sights. But go out of your way, treat it like a big deal, and you make it into something its not.
However, if you must; having female relatives is a plus. Unless everyone knows you well enough to know for a fact that you have none. "That's so cute, I have a niece whose birthday is next week. Do you think they make that in a size 7?"
