It's as absurd as giving up a 'selfish' civil rights struggle so you'll have more time to go hang out in the ghetto.

It's as absurd as admonishing the 'selfish' abolitionists for their pipe dreams of freedom instead of just taking time so befriend a slave.

It's as absurd as seeing suffragettes as selfishly agitating for the vote instead of spending more time with their lady-friends.

You're right; it's not 'patently' absurd. But it is absurd on the face of it, especially when you add in the part I left unspoken:

"it's selfish to campaign for the fundamental rights of countless future children at the expense of the relationships you might have with a handful of girls in the present. The unselfish path is to denounce the rights of young people so you'll be allowed to give them the gift of your friendship."

If that doesn't sound absurd, it's only because youth rights aren't even a consideration in your mind, because substitute any other oppressed group in there and it's vile.
