So, if you haven't seen Splice yet, then consider yourself spoiler warned before reading this article/review ⚠️ ↗, but you really should see it because it touches (softly, mind you) on issues relevant to us. If you've seen the film, the article is a nice read. CanMag likewise has a mostly positive review ⚠️ ↗ of 'Splice' and with less spoilers.

If you're interested in '80s cartoon robots (and who isn't?), you may be interested in knowing that there is still talk of the long-rumored 'Voltron' movie. ⚠️ ↗ I know, I know--not little girl-related, but trust me, you'll want to follow that link, because it leads to a pic of the . . . cutest . . . Voltron . . . ever. :)

Speaking of awesome Japanese cartoons, the next big Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghlbli film will be an adaptation of Mary Norton's 'The Borrowers' book series. ⚠️ ↗ There have been previous made-for-TV adaptations of this series, but you know Miyazaki will add pizazz, and that clip just looks spectacular.

While we're on the topic of Miyazaki films, if you've seen 'Ponyo' (and if you haven't, shame on you!) then you may recall the adorable Japanese theme song from the film, which was in fact sung by little cutie Nozomi Ohashi ⚠️ ↗. You can see here in this video ⚠️ ↗, and also in short bursts in the segment Marimo️ ↗ from the doggy-themed anthology film 'All About My Dog.' If you don't shed a few tears watching that, check your heart to be sure it isn't two sizes too small.
The New Yorker has a fascinating article on why fictional dystopias draw such interest from young readers ⚠️ ↗, which discusses, among other works, Patrick Ness's incredible first book in his Chaos Walking series, 'The Knife of Never Letting Go.' Supplement this with YA Highway's Dystopian and the Apocalypse: What's the Difference? ⚠️ ↗

And on the topic of apocalyptic fiction, io9 has a fairly decent review of the Justin Cronin's massive vampire apocalypse novel, 'Passage.' ⚠️ ↗ It boils down to, the gov't tests a new viral strain on some death row inmates (and, for some reason, one 6-year-old girl named Amy), with the result that all but the child become vampires and start a vampiric apocalypse. Later FBI agent Wolfgast and Amy wind up bonding and living in the woods together for a year, which the article's author calls "the unlikely bond between a single man and a child." (Hee hee.) Sounds like a great read, right up my alley. I'll be looking for a cheap/used copy soon.

You Heinlein fans may be interested in reading his short story, "All You Zombies," ⚠️ ↗, which is about a multi-person trapped in a time loop. Yes, there is a little girl in it.

We now have a review of the upcoming kiddie flick 'Despicable Me,' ⚠️ ↗ and it seems to be quite positive. The film is a about a lowly master thief who encounters three little girls who see him not as a monstrous criminal but as a potential Daddy. Sweet. Probably a good one to take your favorite girls to.

A Japanese trailer for 'The Last Airbender' is out ⚠️ ↗ and features footage not in earlier English-version trailers. The main character's female companion is played by the gorgeous Nicola Peltz ⚠️ ↗.

Some foreign film heads-up: The Color of Paradise ⚠️ ↗ sounds intriguing. There are a few films in the Film Movement lineup about or featuring young girls too, including A Peck on the Cheek ⚠️ ↗ (DVD Talk Review ⚠️ ↗), Carol's Journey ⚠️ ↗ (DVD Talk Review ⚠️ ↗), Familia ⚠️ ↗ (DVD Talk Review ⚠️ ↗) and Falling Angels ⚠️ ↗ (DVD Talk Review ⚠️ ↗).
