The differences in experience between adults and youths is often artificially engendered by our society to justify adult control over youths. If we do not allow them to gain experience at a timetable of their own choosing, then we keep them synthetically dependent upon adults. That is a form of political dirty pool.

During the Dark Ages, kids as often found apprenticeships when they left home than they did kidnapping or starvation. Work wasn't limited to adults only back then, as the equivalent of child labor laws didn't exist.
