1. Gays can fight. Sexual orientation has very little to do with martial prowess, as far as I can tell.

2. Gays are a substantial, (and at present, unpopular,) minority.

3. Gays' fighting prowess is irrelevant, especially for those unable to live in fortified urban bathhouses.

4. Gays would not fare too well in the wild west that you seem to think is the cure for all ills.
