Animals do not see themselves as owning their offspring because they have no conception of ownership.
Clearly you have never witnessed ant and termite wars.
Human beings are capable of rational thought, and as such, comparing us to other members of the animal species who rely on instinctual behavior more than learned behavior and abstract thought is falacious.
I am not really sure we rely more on learning than instinct. And practically nobody outside psychology claims such - not without many caveats about many things we are not yet certain about.
