Your question isn't legitimate since your definition or "Pedophile" is an unworkable one; depending on the future outcomes of all potential relationships.

Is there any reliable research, out there, on the % of the pop. that is truly paedophile?

By "paedophile" i mean a person who, apart from being emotionally attracted to children, could have only a (most) positive effect on a child if they were intimately involved with that child in a physical way.

Imagine if we treated any other orientation this way? Was I provisionally Heterosexual until my Ex-Wife decided to divorce my ass? And what am I now that she has decided that it wasn't all positive?

And why should orientation or desire depend on the allowance for physical interaction, let alone on the judgement of history about the quality of the physical relationship? Here I thought I was Hetero even when I was a Virgin because of my attractions. But was I waiting for the verdict of my first lay?

Also, quite frankly, the outlook of the question seems to presume that all attentions are both desired and beneficial to the subject of the attention. The interest of the child seems quite absent from your "definition."

Any true GirlLover should know to avoid assuming reciprocity. Who I desire may or may not desire me. I can't know how she will feel until I center the locus of my desire solely in myself.

As far as this tangled skein of disparate definitions go, I think that zero percent of the populace fit.

As for Pedophiles, about 1/4 tested in the Kent State study responded to Pedophilic stimuli regardless of what they conceived their orientation to be. As for those who self-identify or are exclusive enough to be categorized, it seems to fall between 5-10 % of the population. But this would be the traditional notion of orientation based on desires, rather than on the outcomes of putative physical relationships.
