When those two gay men were arrested a few years ago in Texas when they were discovered having sex in the privacy of their own home, they appealed to the Supreme Court to protect their rights as "consenting adults." So even as they fought against agents of the state interfering in their right to mutually consensual intimacy, they subsequently turned to the state in enforcing that right. It can work both ways.

And if there hadn't been a state in the first place, they wouldn't have had to use it to defend their rights. All the homophobes could do was bitch about it, not enforce anything.
