All that said, Heinlein himself resisted being pigeonholed as a libertarian or anything else. Mostly he reflected the cultural values of his place and time, modified and expanded by his own experiences and prodigious intelligence. As American values of that time had a strong libertarian component, it should come as no surprise that his writings reflect that.

That's the same point I made in earlier discussions about Heinlein, but I got bombarded by the Heinlein fans here for even suggesting that (gasp) Heinlein might've been a product of his time. I think too many here want Heinlein to represent their pro-child lib agenda, including the sexual stuff, but I really think Heinlein was just out to provoke thought and liked to play with ideas. As I said before, the libertarians I've met in real life or on the Net outside of CLer forums have been among the most vivious antis I've ever encountered. freedave over at DU is the preeminent example. He was briefly banned from DU for telling me to kill myself and has been consistently antagonistic to me, even when the rest of the board has mostly accepted me. The libertarians I've met in real life have also been the most vocal proponents of killing pedophiles.
