Secondly, no one here ever denied that the majority of people on this board are pro-contact. It stands to reason that the majority of MAAs would be pro-contact. I think the majority of people on this board are quite intelligent, and I do not see large numbers of pro-contact people using flimsly or awkward arguments to defend pro-choice views. Sometimes, yes, as every ideology has its share of individuals who do not stand up in debate. Nevertheless, even the smart people who espouse anti-contact beliefs use the same emotionalistic, anti-democratic, assumption-based rhetoric to defend the AoC laws as the stupid among their number. Intelligent people using flimsy arguments are not as forgivable as less than intelligent people who use the same flimsy points in dispute.
Lat may have had a tough row to hoe, but so have many of us, and many of us have not done some of the things that he has done to this community. You do yourself a disservice when you defend him after he throws his usual insults at us, and particularly whenever he has an emotional breakdown and decides we all need to be "cured" for the good of the children.
Finally, one of the main reasons the average person on the street believes that AoC laws benefit children and teens is because they never hear the opposite side of the argument, and the scientific studies that refute such beliefs are frequently censored or (as in the case of the Rind Report) condemned by Congress. Yet Lat and other anti-contact posters constantly whine about how their viewpoint is marginalized on a few little online message boards when their view is by far the dominant view in society. It's the pro-contact people in this community who are fighting an uphill battle, it's us who struggle against seemingly insurmountable odds on a daily basis without wavering, and it's us who will never see our view fully validated or 'normalized' within our lifetimes (as you noted), not the anti-contact people. So I am sick of seeing their bellyaching about how they are a poor oppressed minority group within this single little marginalized community, when the general public largely supports their view, and where the opposite view is heavily censored despite how much the scientific evidence supports it. Unlike you, I fail to feel sorry for Lat, and I respected him more when he fought the status quo rather than trying to assuage and appeal to it.
