No, I don't think this is OK for the court to allow this assault on the man, even if it is true that he molested his son. What if he took a gun on him? Would that be murder, or let him go?
The only time I will accept that assault is OK against another person is in self-defense. This assault was after the fact. If the father has assaulted the molester at the time of the incident, that would have been perfectly OK in my mind, and totally reasonable both on moral and legal grounds. However, after the fact it cannot be justified legally in my opinion, though the moral argument is a more complicated issue that I will not get into.
If the child knew how to, or was able to attack the molester in any way possible I would say this was certainly ok too, because it was self-defense.
