The civil rights and liberties that we've been promised in our constitution are mere words on paper. They do not have any power. The reason they were written on a piece of paper is because the founding fathers knew the system was prone to corruption but they didn't know how to fix it, so they created these useless declarations, hoping beyond all hope that they would keep the shit from breaking through.
Well, it hasn't.
What the free market has created is a corporatocracy of greedy businessmen and politicans. Not until the foundation of the our system and the dominant moral philosophy that drives the corruption changes are things going to get any better.
Take the Constitution for what is is, a failed attempt at fixing the problems.
In the words of Thomas Jefferson, "I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations which dare already to challenge our government in a trial of strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country."
Sad, isn't it?
