I agree. As a kid, I once took a hunting knife (with a 5 inch blade) to school. Carried it around all day. Showed it to a few friends. If I had been caught, I would have had my proverbial pee-pee slapped. Mommy and Daddy would have been called, I would probably have had a meeting with the principal and my parents, and maybe a few days of after school detention.

A kid doing that today could in the worst case be arrested, suspended for the rest of the year, and charged with a "terroristic act" by homeland security.

I am glad I was a kid when the average adult, school administrator, and politician had at least a few functional brain cells...
