Consent which is not adequately informed (as in, the person is exposed to all required information, and is able to properly process and understand the information) is ignored in law.

Well, sometimes, anyway. Apparently ignorance is not a defense under the law for some crimes, oddly enough. People will assume adults are necessarily able to be informed about what they get themself into just as easily as they'll assume a minor is not.
