Firstly, not everyone who joins manages to 'look at all this'. Furthermore, not denying the reality is not an excuse. People can be guilty of indifference. I won't put a guy in jail if he doesn't stop a lady being robbed, but I'd certainly think he's a bit of an uncaring jerk. At least that I could sort of understand though, because he might also be a coward. I can totally identify with being a coward. After all, that robber might have a gun or something.
There's no excuse like cowardice here for not helping people. You're not going to get shot if you mention the medical definition of pedophilia every time someone misleads others by using a broad inclusive definition. Or maybe you will? I don't really know how the minds of everyone here works, after all people here have told me it's perfectly sane to want me dead for bringing this up.
It's even worse for the people who are actively using the broad definition to draw in others knowing the pain that comes from being labeled with the more specific definitions, be it professional (APA) or nonprofessional (media, PJ).
The problem here, is your 'we' concept. The small minority of APA-defined pedophiles are hated and feared MORE than the 'oh, you like underage girls too?' kind of 'pedophiles'. Thus, they get targetted with more hatred than they would normally receive through adopting that word on the insistance of people who have things to gain from people being misunderstood.
Many here are more concerned with progressing towards societal acceptance than they are with the wellbeing of the fellow members of society they want to be accepted. Essentially, it is leading moderates to be perceived as extremists, and they aren't being warned about it. That is the 'indoctrination campaign'. It's so utterly simple that it doesn't even NEED to be organized.
You have made inferenced of ignoring. That's just not the case. Everyone is ignorant of the content of a board when they come to it. There's a lot of text, and a lot of drama that happens behind the scenes, off-site research that needs to be done.
This place is painted as an open area where people can come to get things off their chest, to relate common things, talk casually. Yet, it is NOT that safe, because it is being watched by terrorists who will jump on the slightest word to attack someone.
Knowing about this incredible danger, I do not understand why people can support such a vulnerable atmosphere of casualness and encourage or ignore statements used to encourage people to adopt this label for themself when they do not fit the government's definition for it which the terrorists WILL cite as a reference of authority.
The problem here is a lot of people coming to this board are not 'in the toybox' to begin with. A lot of them are hebephiles, or do not have a 'sexual preference' that would classify them medically as a pedophile. There's no toybox for them to come out of. As such, they do not feel the same amount of fear or apprehension in doing so, and eaglery jump out of the 'toybox' which this community's older members, society, the media, haters, PJ, etc have cooperatively constructed for them, to the consternation of those who care, like me and the APA.
If you went up to a therapist and started discussing pedophilia, they will not just go along with it, they would first make sure you knew what the heck you were talking about, especially if you planned to go public calling yourself one. Nobody here has this concern. This board IS effectively public, as is the internet, because many people do fearlessly share too much private data on it, and don't deserve to be punished for thinking the world is a good place.
A lot of children would share their info on the net if not warned not to, since frequently they are sheltered from the world's horrors. A lot of them may even do it in spite of being warned, because they have hope that they can reach out to those society fears. They hope that they have what others do not, the capacity to explain to those who are 'evil' and to help them find something good.
I'm not saying to shelter, but to inform adequately about warnings, and not be so vague about it, and to have its information understood prior to admittance, not just tossed there to be misinterpreted. Blaming people for misinterpreting or underestimating a danger is incredibly vile.
