Yeah. I get this a lot.

We just need to remove ourselves from the offense we would take from an adult. Keep in mind that kids doing this are usually being playful and not intending to be hurtful.

I find the best defense is a good offense. In other words through the insults back as quick as they give em, all in a joking playful manner though.

Eg:

LG: You're fat
me: You're short
LG: yeah...well..you're ugly
me: hmph! Well...you're...short!
LG: You already said that
me: SHUT UP

everyone laughs. Then if she comes at me again a well placed growl and attempt to trip/wrestle/throw water at makes a good follow up. This action depends on the situation completely though. You wouldn't wrestle a girl you hardly know, but throwing a pillow would be completely acceptable.

And also ensure the silly insults you throw back are just that; silly and have no basis to actually hurt the girl!
