Nor will seeing footage of The Holocaust.
It all depends on context. We now presume that footage of death will warp the viewer. But back when most of us lived in extended families on or near farms, death; human and otherwise, was pretty unavoidable. Both our surroundings and our experience gives us the context for the information we're seeing. We no longer view public executions as being the kind of family-fare which builds good morality in children. PS. Nightmares occur with greater frequency at a younger age and mostly taper-off later. I saw worse things at a tender age which were products of my imagination. But we aren't talking about knowledge being disturbing, we're talking about it corrupting. No knowledge can make someone become depraved. It might be temporarily disquieting, but it can't make a good person evil. Dante |
